Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations and administration of the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO). The THPO Director performs the duties as laid out in the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Cultural Resources Ordinance (C-02-16) and section 101(d)(2) and section 101(b)(3) of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470) and the Tribal Historic Preservation Plan of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, including surveying and recognizing historic properties; reviewing nominations for properties to be included in the Tribal and National Registers of Historic Places and reviewing undertakings for the impact on the properties. The incumbent leads the development and implementation of the THPO’ operational goals and objectives, strategic plans and policies and procedures; directs and coordinates the activities administration of the THPO department. High School Diploma is preferred. Expert cultural knowledge in Seminole culture, traditions, language(s), customs and history is essential. Language proficiency in Miccosukee or Creek preferred. A graduate degree in Historic Preservation, History, Anthropology, indigenous studies or related field is preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in cultural or historic preservation is required. Must possess management experience with knowledge of Tribal, Federal and State laws pertaining to cultural resource management on Federal/Tribal lands. An equivalent combination of education/training and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver license is required. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel to all STOF Reservations and areas within the ancestral homelands of the Seminole Community for the purposes of consultation. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
