Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting the staff assigned to the Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF) Tribal Historic Preservation Office’s (THPO) Archaeometry Section with all aspects related to archaeological techniques and methods including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geophysical techniques, remote sensing, THPO database management, spatial information and archaeological sciences. The individual assists the Chief Data Analyst in the successful integration and management of spatial field data within the existing THPO geodatabases; managing any field and survey equipment related to THPO and the Archaeometry section. The incumbent provides support to other THPO staff with the integration of GIS and geophysical techniques and the geographic components within cultural resource management, historic preservation and archaeological sciences. The individual uses advanced GIS skills and appropriate mapping techniques to meet the needs of the THPO. Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geophysics, Geomatics, Anthropology or related field, with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) coursework is required. Certification as Geographic Information System Professional (GISP) is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of GIS experience with one (1) year of field experience using GPS is required. Prior relevant experience in geospatial studies including GIS, geophysical techniques, remote sensing is required. Solid knowledge of ESRI products, such as, ArcGIS Desktop 10.X, ArcGIS Pro 2.X, Esri Mobile Field Apps (such as Collector) and ArcPad 10.X. and Trimble GeoExplorer Series (e.g. GeoXH/Geo7X) is required. Knowledge and understanding of GIS/GPS database and principles, database, cartographic, geographic, statistical and mathematical theory sufficient to perform geographic analyses is required. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing computer software packages. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
