Job Description

This is professional and specialized work in the Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) of the Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF). The incumbent assists in the preparation of THPO reviews of agency projects on ancestral, aboriginal, and ceded Seminole lands. The incumbent participates, as required, in agency consultations through face-to-face meetings, teleconferences, phone calls, email correspondence, etc. The individual assists in conducting documentary research and personal interviews to further define the STOF area of interest. The individual attends public meetings and monitor news media outlets to keep informed about non-106 projects which may impact the Tribe. Assists in maintaining the THPO documents database and other files; participates in professional training, and performs other office work related to the THPO program. Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Historic Preservation, Anthropology, History, Environmental Science, or related field is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience related to cultural resources fieldwork (survey, testing, and mitigation). A minimum of two years of compliance technical-report writing experience is preferred. Understanding of basic historic preservation and environmental law especially Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is required. Prior experience working in or with Native American government is preferred. Must possess or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license. Proficiency in the utilizing Microsoft software packages (especially Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Explorer, and Power Point) and a willingness to learn GIS and document management software is expected. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate excellent office and interpersonal skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
