Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for leading, directing, and coaching staff to develop and engage the workforce performing vital radio-based communications. The individual also performs radio-based communications duties including, advising and assisting in the preparation of communications equipment specifications and operational procedures for communication systems, and advising and assisting with the selection, procurement, installation, testing, and acceptance of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, and other auxiliary communication systems and equipment. The incumbent supervises operating and maintenance staff. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through discussion and inspection, principally for determining general progress and adherence to departmental policies and regulations. General technical or policy problems may be discussed with a higher level supervisor before taking action. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or a related field. A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience working in the telecommunications industry (700 MHz, 800MHz, VHF, or 4.9 GHz) including two (2) years of planning, design, and construction of radio communications projects.Experience must include working with large, multi-site radio and/or microwave networks (conventional and/or trunked radio systems), supervising engineering or technical staff is preferred. Possession of a valid General Radiotelephone License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is required. Possession of a valid FL Driver’s License is required. Business and Education Radio (NABER) Certification and APCO Certificate in public safety radio are preferred. Prior experience working with EDACs/Motorola,AutoCad, Visio is desirable. Familiarity with RF Propagation study software such as RAPTR or ComStudy. Demonstrate Excellent English written and oral communication skills. Ability to travel to all STOFReservations and work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
