Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for managing the policies, regulations and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe and cultural learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ahfachkee School. The School Principal serves as the educational leader, pursuing understanding and support of the school mission among Seminole Tribal Communities. The individual oversees, coordinates and evaluates the operation and functioning of all areas the school including instructional/academic programs, extracurricular activities, discipline systems, Title I services, and counseling services, to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school. The individual exercises direct supervision of the faculty and staff and ensures the safety of all students at all times. Master’s degree in Education and certification as a School Principal is required. A minimum of ten (10) years of classroom experience with five (5) years of experience working as a School Principal is required. Demonstrated experience in teachers’ professional development is required. In depth knowledge of curriculum is required. Knowledge and experience working with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) is preferred. Proven experience in a cross cultural or multicultural environment and in the areas of teaching and learning is required. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrate proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft software programs. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays. Local, regional, national or international travel will be required, to oversee program implementation and/or to attend conferences and meetings related to the EAO and/or its various programs.
