Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting the staff assigned to the Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Historic Preservation Office’s (THPO) Collections Section with all aspects of collection management including cataloging, research, and preservation-related duties. The individual assists the Collections Manager in processing archaeological artifacts received at the laboratory; washes, catalogs, and prepares artifacts for analysis and curation; provides support to the senior staff and consulting analysts in regard to collection needs; assists staff members with project needs and provides assistance and support to meet the general needs of the THPO. The incumbent will have experience or knowledge about the monitoring of environmental conditions, IPM, and the creation of museum quality custom housing. Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related discipline is required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the care of archaeological collections in an archaeological museum laboratory is required. Prior relevant experience in the study of archaeological or historic materials is preferred. Must demonstrate proficiency in current technologies, including desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and database management is required. Must demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must have the ability to travel to all reservations and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
