Job Description

The incumbent in this technical scientific position is responsible for providing direct support and implementing the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s (Tribe) Water Quality (WQ) monitoring and assessment program, as administered by the Water and Wetlands Science Section (WWSS) of the Environmental Resource Management Department (ERMD). The individual collects surface water and soil samples from Tribal water bodies and natural areas using established methods and standard operating procedures (SOP), for analytical chemical and bacteriological components analyses. The incumbent applies established quality assessment/quality control (QA/QC) methods to validate analytical WQ data received from laboratory in order to assess Tribal-wide water quality status and trends, evaluate Tribal WQ standards, and ensure compliance with all Tribal (i.e., Tribal Water Code) and federal (i.e., Clean Water Act) regulations and update related databases. The incumbent executes daily equipment calibrations and other field sampling quality control (QC) check preparations; makes detailed record of daily sampling site conditions, transports samples and completes chain-of-custody (COC) forms upon delivery to analytical laboratory and may perform maintenance and repair work of long-term water level and rainfall recorders. The employee is encouraged to broaden their skills through regular training to include sampling plant communities, and integrated biogeochemical and biological monitoring of landscapes. Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or closely related field is preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of technical water quality sampling experience is required. A combination of pertinent education, training, and relevant experience that can demonstrate command of the required knowledge and skills needed to carry out the stated job duties may be considered as substitute for Bachelor’s Degree. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Must demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be detailed oriented and able to strictly adhere to all standard operating procedures. Must be able to travel to all Seminole Tribe of Florida Reservations and Tribal Lands, and must be able to work a flexible schedule that can include evenings, holidays, and weekends.
