Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for supervising field operations, including Fire Inspections, Fire Investigations, and Public Education. The individual is also responsible for supervising administrative operations including the review of plans and blueprints for new/existing residential, institutional and commercial construction sites and buildings to ensure compliance with Fire Prevention Code(s) and standards. The individual assists the Fire Marshal with the direction and management of the Fire Prevention/Life Safety Division and conducts public education events to create awareness on safety practices. High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Prior experience in building construction and/or fire suppression, prevention, or inspection, and providing education/training in fire prevention is required. Prior experience in management or supervisory capacity is required. Florida certifications as a Fire Safety Inspector I and Firefighter I are required at time of appointment. Five years of Tribal Fire Inspection Experience may be substituted for Firefighter I certification. Florida certification as a Fire Inspector II must be obtained within two years of appointment. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) certificate are required. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate experience utilizing Microsoft software packages. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
