Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the overall leadership, development, organization, and management of the Tribal Inspector’s Department (TID) of the Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF). The individual directs, manages, and supervises departmental staff and resources, and exercises oversight over the STOF Building Official, ensuring building code compliance and delivery of associated services. The Director may also serve the same duties as Building Official, as needed. Work involves the administration of a variety of roles and functions including, but not limited to: development and management of the department budget; development and formulation of short and long-range strategic plans; representation of the department at Tribal Council meetings or community meetings; oversight over the permit application review, permit issuance and building inspections processes; the evaluation and improvement of service delivery systems; assessment of individual and departmental performance; and, development, maintenance and promulgation of rules, regulations and procedures to implement construction codes. The incumbent also exercises direct oversight over the administration of the Tribe’s Unsafe Structures Ordinance Program and the annual elevator and commercial building inspections programs and is responsible for the success of these programs. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred. Registered Professional Engineer or Architect Licensed in the State of Florida is required. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience under that license or registration which must have included responsible administrative and management experience in the building construction industry or in the municipal review of construction documents and plans within the area of a jurisdiction of the State of Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone as defined in the Florida Building Code, with at least a minimum of five (5) years being in a supervisory capacity is required. Possession and maintenance of a Building Code Administrator certification by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspector’s Board or be eligible to obtain and receive within six (6) months of employment is required. Prior experience with EnerGov software systems is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas in English both orally and in writing. Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft software programs. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including English written and oral communication skills are required. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
