Job Description
This is specialized work for the historic preservation program of the Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Historic Preservation Office (STOF THPO). The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing systematic investigations of possible archaeological sites, including excavation, field data collection, and data recording, using GPS software. The incumbent also works seasonally in the THPO Archaeological Laboratory on focused projects. Work focuses on the identification and analysis of archaeological objects collected during the field season. Additional and specialized analysis appropriate for publication may be required. Employees in this position may work closely with Tribal community members to document sites and the history of the STOF reservation lands. This position is considered a senior level of the archaeological technician position, and is responsible for quality control of collected data and may aid in methodological decisions. The incumbent is required to report to any one of the seven (7) reservations depending on daily scheduled project work. Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archeology, History or related field is required. A minimum of one (1) year experience conducting Phase I fieldwork and an archaeological field school is also required. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License (or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire) and be able to operate Tribal vehicles, which include 4-wheel drive trucks and all-terrain vehicles, is required. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing computer software package. Ability to travel across reservations and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
