Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and overseeing, the operations and services provided by the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Planning and Development Department. The individual develops, directs and oversees planning professionals on the creation, coordination and implementation of a Tribal comprehensive urban plan / master plan, amendments to the plan, project specific site plans, land development plans, etc. The incumbent leads in the development of the five (5) year capital improvement (CIP) plan; initiates and manages approved CIP projects through the planning, design, and construction phases of development. The incumbent directs the activities of professional staff to include all areas of planning, inclusive of commercial, industrial and residential developments. The individual generates, implements and administers the department’s policies, objectives and procedures; and ensures the development of necessary programs or procedures for compiling and analyzing data which helps evaluate the potential cost/benefit of current and future development projects for Tribal community. Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering or similarly related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of management and supervisory experience in planning and design is required. Prior experience in dealing with Federal, State, County, and Local government agencies and officials is preferred. Possession of at least one (1) of the following certifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); American Planning Association (APA) or State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE), is required. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing a wide variety of software packages including Autocad, Microsoft Office and databases. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and ability to travel locally/nationally and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
