Job Description

The incumbent for this skilled position within the Operations and Maintenance Section (O&M) of the Water Resources Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various mechanical equipment assets including: diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, generators, heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, graders, backhoes, front-end loaders), small gasoline engines, and vehicles. Duties include: executing a targeted preventative maintenance program for mechanical equipment to ensure optimum, long-term operation and safety, routine inspection, operation, and documentation of mechanical assets in the field (e.g., water pumps), and parts inventory. The work may involve rebuilding diesel and gasoline engines, trouble-shooting and repairing electrical component systems, and hydraulic pump repair. High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a maintenance mechanic is required. An equivalent combination of education/relevant training and experience may also be considered. Professional certifications such as ASE Certified Diesel Mechanic from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic from the Instrument Society of America, or Fluid Power Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic from the International Fluid Power Society are preferred. Knowledge of proper tool use and a strong commitment to safety procedures is mandatory. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Possession or ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of employment is required. Must demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate proficiency in computer skills utilizing Microsoft software is preferred. Must have the ability to travel across all reservations ant to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
