Job Description
The incumbent for this advanced, skilled position within the Operations and Maintenance Section (O&M) of the Water Resources Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various mechanical equipment assets including diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, generators, heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, graders, backhoes, front-end loaders), small gasoline engines, and vehicles. Duties include Overseeing and executing a targeted preventative maintenance program for all tribal wide mechanical equipment to ensure optimum, long-term operation and safety, routine inspection, operation, and documentation of mechanical assets in the field (e.g., water pumps), and parts inventory. The work may involve rebuilding diesel and gasoline engines, troubleshooting and repairing electrical component systems, and hydraulic pump repair. The individual applies expert knowledge in diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of mechanical systems and assists with training and mentoring entry-level mechanics. This position is considered essential for emergency response and can be called upon during off hours and declared emergency events to directly address pump station and water control structure failures on Reservation. High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a heavy duty equipment mechanic is required. An equivalent combination of education/relevant training and experience may also be considered. Professional certifications such as ASE Certified Diesel Mechanic from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic from the Instrument Society of America, or Fluid Power Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic from the International Fluid Power Society is required. Knowledge of proper tool use and a strong commitment to safety procedures is mandatory. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Possession or ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with Hazmat endorsement is preferred or ability to obtain within one year of employment is required. Must demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to use a computer for email, spreadsheets, and the Internet is preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
