Job Description

This position is a supervisory role within the Seminole Tribe of Florida's (Tribe) Environmental Resources Department (ERD) under the Environmental Permitting and Compliance Program. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the work of Environmental Compliance Inspectors, which includes reviewing permitting files, reports, and other documents to ensure permittees maintain compliance with all relevant requirements throughout the permit duration. Key duties include planning and conducting inspections and site visits to document field conditions, producing timely and accurate reports of inspections and fieldwork, investigating complaints, and providing compliance assistance. The role may also involve recommending enforcement actions to address potential non-compliance with Tribal, federal, and state regulations, and identifying solutions for complex compliance challenges. The incumbent conducts diligent investigative review, coordinating with technical subject matter experts, if necessary, and prepares the required documentation of compliance and enforcement actions in accordance with applicable Tribal, federal, and state laws. The individual offers support during emergency situations. Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Sciences, Wetland Ecology, or closely related field is required. A minimum of five (5) years previous experience and/or training in a related area of work, such as: pollution control, water quality monitoring, environmental assessment, ecological impact analysis, wetland permitting, environmental permitting, environmental code enforcement, chemistry, computerized mapping is required with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience is required. Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) certification through the Society of Wetland Scientists’ (SWS) Professional Certification Program is preferred or must work to become WPIT within five years of hire, as directed by SWS requirements. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Must demonstrate excellent organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate computer proficiency and skills utilizing Microsoft software suite and ESRI GIS software; must demonstrate EPL/Energov software platform proficiency. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must have the ability to travel to all Seminole Tribe of Florida Reservations and Tribal lands, and able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
