Job Description

This position entails professional scientific work with responsibilities in the monitoring, assessment, and management of wildlife and land resources on Seminole Tribe of Florida lands. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the development and implementation of wildlife monitoring and management programs under the Fish and Wildlife Section of Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Department of Conservation. The individual collects, analyzes, and interprets biological data for all Florida wildlife, with an emphasis on mammalian species. The individual leads activities related to the capturing, immobilizing, marking/tagging, and collecting data from large carnivores with the use of immobilizing drugs. This role gains knowledge of Tribe’s wildlife resources by designing and implementing monitoring projects across Tribal lands. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in the application of the ecological scientific principles, methodologies, and practices of wildlife management. Master’s Degree in Wildlife Management, Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field from an accredited or university is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a wildlife biologist and the ability to demonstrate good knowledge of fish, wildlife, conservation biology, plant ecology and/or habitat management practices is required. Previous experience publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals is required. Previous experience working for or with a Native American Tribal Nation, or the Bureau of Indian Affairs is highly preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Demonstrated experience working within Florida ecosystems, including hands-on experience with both mammalian and non-mammalian local species. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Able to travel to all STOF Reservations and other location as necessary and work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
