Job Description

This advanced professional position within the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Environmental Resources Department (ERD) serves as the lead scientist and Program Manager for the Tribe-wide Environmental Restoration Program. The individual is responsible for leading, planning, analyzing and interpreting wetland resource data; assesses potential impacts to Tribal wetland resources; upkeeps and maintains the Tribe’s wetland and wildlife mitigation areas per permit criteria; and develops strategies to avoid, minimize, or mitigate impacts to Tribal wetland resources across all Seminole Tribe lands. The role provides technical support for government-to-government consultations, communicates findings to diverse audiences, supervises program staff, manages the program’s budget, and ensures alignment with ERD’s strategic goals. The incumbent collaborates among ERD Sections and staff utilizing science-based, data-driven approach that supports the foundation for an informed decision-making process for coordination with Departmental leadership. Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or similarly related field is required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a Wetland Scientist, Environmental Scientist, Ecologist, or related field in the State of Florida is required. Prior knowledge and experience working with hydric soils, wetland hydrology, wetland and ecotonal vegetative species, wetland delineations, and jurisdictional determinations in the State of Florida is required. Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Professional in Training certification through the Society of Wetland Scientists’ Professional Certification Program is preferred; or ability to become certified is desired. Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required. Must demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of GIS, databases, and Microsoft software packages are required. Must have the ability to travel across reservations and other locations and to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
